Mission Statement:

Inspired by the joy of singing and hearing choral music, the Cumberland Oratorio Singers strive to be a premier symphonic chorus through the outstanding performance of choral masterworks. With a commitment to excellence and education for over 20 years, we work collaboratively with all singers to foster a vibrant, diverse, and interactive choral community, educate our singers and audiences, and extend our reach to the youth of Cumberland County and the Sandhills region.

The Cumberland Oratorio Singers is well into its third decade as the Sandhills Region's elite classical chorale society.  The 23rd season saw the realization of the vision of the COS's leadership with the establishment of the Cross Creek Chorale [CCC], a select-voice ensemble from within the ranks of COS singers.  This was only possible due to the growth, both in size and notoriety, of the Cumberland Oratorio Singers organization in recent years.  Our commitment to providing opportunities for our local college and primary music students to experience world-class choral music with live orchestral accompaniment, both as guest performers as well as audience members, has been crucial in this growth process; ensuring future generations of musicians to continue the legacy of COS.

The 2015-16 season saw the creation of a new ensemble, the Campbellton Youth Chorus (CYC). The CYC is for all Cumberland County and Sandhills region youth ages 9 through 14 (grades 4-8), regardless of school affiliation, ethnicity, socio-economic background, or religion. Through a wide variety of high-quality choral music, both sacred and secular, the CYC provides vocal development, music literacy, and unique performance opportunities.  CYC strives to develop lifelong appreciation of and participation in great choral music.

The 2016-17 season (our 25th anniversary season!) will see COS, CCC and CYC performing at multiple venues throughout Cumberland County and the greater Sandhills Region.  As always, students of all ages are admitted free to all COS performances; Messiah perforamnces are free admission performances for Everyone!  Please consider being a part of our season!  Whether you sing or listen, come share the experience with us!

As we have grown and gained greater diversity in our membership, we also have gained increased recognition and notability throughout the Cape Fear region. You are more and more likely to see and hear COS represented at various community functions as we are increasingly invited to participate as featured guest artists, including singing the Star Spangled Banner, at special events throughout Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, and Cumberland County.

Our expanding collaborations with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Fayetteville Symphonic Band, and local college music programs strengthen our position as one of the Sandhills region’s stronger musical organizations.

Rehearsals are on Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45 p.m., at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Raeford Road. For additional information, call Dr. Michael Martin at 910-630-7153 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
